The San Francesco Caracciolo Hospice is located on Via Tirreno, in the Monte Sacro district of Rome, a quiet residential area surrounded by greenery in the north-east of the city. The facility is approximately 300 meters from the Conca d’Oro metro station (Line B) and is also easily accessible via ATAC surface public transport lines.

The Hospice is a healthcare facility dedicated to the care of people with advanced and end-stage chronic or progressive illnesses. Through a multidisciplinary approach, it provides medical, psychological, and spiritual support, ensuring high-quality palliative care with full respect for the patient’s dignity and continuous support for families.

Palliative care addresses the person as a whole, relieving pain and offering comfort during the most delicate stages of illness. At the same time, it accompanies and supports families by providing attentive listening, closeness, and assistance throughout the care journey and the grieving process.

The facility offers two types of care, both free of charge and covered by the Italian National Health Service (SSN):

  • Inpatient Hospice Care, with 21 beds
  • Home Care Assistance, serving up to 84 patients

In the event that all places are fully occupied, requests are managed through a waiting list in order of submission.

The San Francesco Caracciolo Hospice offers a welcoming, safe, and peaceful environment where patients can feel at home. It features 21 single rooms, each equipped with a private bathroom, television, air conditioning, a bed or reclining chair for a designated family member, and mobility aids.

Rooms may be personalized with the patient’s personal belongings to recreate a familiar and comforting atmosphere.

A multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, social workers, and volunteers cares for patients in all dimensions — clinical, psychological, social, and spiritual — with the goal of maintaining the best possible quality of life, even during the most delicate stages of illness.

The Hospice is ISO 9001 certified, ensuring the implementation of the most up-to-date palliative care procedures, and is authorized and accredited under DPCA No. U00334 of 26/07/2013.

The Home Care Service provides comprehensive and continuous assistance to 84 patients in their own homes, with 24-hour support delivered by a specialized multidisciplinary team.

The service includes:

  • Daily nurse visits for direct care (therapy administration, wound care, pain management, blood sampling, and family support);

  • Weekly physician visits, with 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies;

  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions (at least three per week) to relieve pain and promote mobility;

  • Psychological support and social care services;

  • Provision of medical and rehabilitation equipment and supplies (medications, dressings, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.).

The effectiveness of home care is based on the active collaboration of the family, who remain an integral part of the care pathway. An adequate home environment and the constant presence of a designated family member or caregiver are required.
